Scot Greenwood, Of Counsel is a civil litigator with more than fifteen years of experience in effectively representing clients and insureds in multiple types of litigation, arbitration, and pre-suit situations. He has experience defending businesses, medical professionals, construction contractors, and national insurance companies and has tried many cases to verdict, including as first chair.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Scot was an environmental consultant with a national environmental engineering company and worked on large scale environmental projects for commercial and military clients. Scot’s background in science and engineering consulting often gives him the upper hand while working with engineers, scientists, physicians, and other professionals. This experience allows Scot to develop compelling legal strategies to defend and prosecute cases.
Work History
Scot began his legal career as a law clerk for an insurance defense firm in Colorado Springs, Colorado while in law school. After graduating, he continued to work in litigation in Colorado Springs, primarily representing medical professionals and construction contractors. This early phase of his legal career allowed Scot to gain valuable experience in trials in Colorado district and courts, including a first chair trial in El Paso County District Court. Scot then returned to Denver, Colorado to exclusively represent medical professionals and then formed a small boutique firm to represent construction contractors, businesses, and individuals.
Since joining Lasater & Martin in 2010, Scot has focused his practice on representing individuals, businesses, and construction contractors in a variety of litigation matters. He has achieved favorable results for hundreds of clients in both Colorado federal and district courtrooms and arbitrations.

Representative Experience
- Obtained summary judgment for an automobile insurer on the doctrine of reasonable expectations in a dispute involving the resident relative exclusion.
- Defended a summary judgment ruling on appeal that was ultimately upheld by the Colorado Court of Appeals involving UM/UIM offsets and attempt by opposing counsel to multiply UM/UIM benefits based on the number of drivers that allegedly caused the accident.
- Tried multiple cases to a jury verdict as first and second-chair counsel.
- Worked to obtain a defense verdict in Larimer County on behalf of an off-duty police officer that was alleged to have caused catastrophic injuries in an automobile/pedestrian accident. The verdict was affirmed on appeal.
- Participated in a trial team that obtained a defense verdict for a major local sporting arena regarding a patron who claimed injuries in excess of $1 million dollars.
- Obtained a directed verdict at trial for a client accused of road rage following injuries to another motorist.
- Authored hundreds of motions and briefs, including motions for summary judgment, to resolve liability issues and limit damages in cases throughout Colorado.
